Glendale is helaas in oktober 2002 overleden aan een acute koliekaanval. Ze hebben hem toen inlaten slapen.

Glendale April 22, 1988 - October 4, 2002

“He was somewhat overshadowed by the big guns here—Roemer, Contango and Consul—but he was a farm favorite, a real gentleman with a sense of humor!” said Meghan de Garay, Manager of Iron Spring Farm. “Even while on stall rest for a year following an early surgery, he’d be happy to show you one of his “tricks”, as long as you had a nice treat for him.”

On October 4, Glendale suffered from another painful colic attack, and was rushed to New Bolton Center of the University of Pennsylvania. He did not respond to treatment, and was humanely put down. His career was cut short in 1995 due to a series of colics arising from an entrapped spleen. After a number of surgeries, it was decided to retire the stallion from competition to concentrate on his breeding career.

Glendale was foaled at the VDL Stud in Beers (Friesland) in 1988 out of KWPN breeding family 716. He passed his stallion test in 1991 (finishing 8th out of 24), and went on to finish second in the 1992/1993 Stallion Competition in Category A (Dressage.) As a four year old in Holland, Glendale served more than 300 KWPN mares.
Glendale was sired by the legendary VDL stallion Nimmerdor, and joins a long list of Nimmerdor sons who have passed before the father. Glendale’s dam is the highly respected Keur and Preferent mare Silja by the Preferent Marco Polo. Silja’s foal following Glendale, the Keur mare Haifa, is a full sister to Glendale and dam of the approved KWPN stallion Nijinski (by Libero H), who in a rare coincidence also finished 8th at his stallion testing in 1998.

Glendale was imported by Iron Spring Farm in 1995, and was trained and ridden by ISF’s owner, Mary Alice Malone. That year the stallion received the USDF Performance Award for Second Level, and qualified for the USDF Region 1 Championships (unfortunately, his surgery kept him from competing.)

Glendale made his last public appearance in-hand at the NAWPN Keuring held at Iron Spring Farm on September 11-12. As usual, he was a crowd pleaser. “He was always such a ham,” remarked Meghan. “We’re going to miss him.”
